Professor Andrea Ghez wowed San Gabriel Valley Chancellor's Associates as she guided them on a galactic tour. |
UCLA Chancellor’s Associates had the unique opportunity on April 17 to peer into the heart of the Milky Way Galaxy. Their guide on this fantastic journey across space and time was renowned physics and astronomy Professor Andrea Ghez, whose remarkable conclusions about star formations and a black hole in the center of the galaxy earned her a place among Discover magazine’s top 20 young American scientists.
“Andrea Ghez’s obvious excitement about her work was contagious and she was able to put difficult concepts into a language we all could understand,” says attendee Jordan S. Cohen ’88. “She also mentioned her discovery of the black hole in our galaxy was made possible by Chancellor’s Associates’ seed money, so it was nice to see the tangible benefits to the advancement of science that accrue from our giving.” |
