Frequently Asked Questions
What is the UCLA Fund?
The UCLA Fund is a vital funding source that creates unique opportunities for students and
enhances programs across campus. Each year thousands of alumni, parents, friends and
students help shape the UCLA experience with their unrestricted gifts.
What is the "redefined UCLA Fund"? Can I now direct my gift to a particular area of campus?
The UCLA Fund has moved to a donor-centric model of giving, acting as an umbrella for
unrestricted funds across campus. You can now give to one or more of these funds, which include unrestricted
funds at the College, professional schools, health sciences, additional university programs, and the Chancellor's
Greatest Needs (formerly known as the UCLA Fund). To review a list of campus areas and programs you can support, please click here.
What is an unrestricted gift?
An unrestricted gift is not designated for a specific purpose. It is the most flexible kind of
support that can be used in a timely way to meet the chancellor's greatest needs.
We live in an ever-changing environment and these funds allow UCLA to rise to new
challenges and seize exciting opportunities. Many of the university's most innovative
initiatives were made possible because of unrestricted resources.
How many designations can I make?
You can give to as many areas of campus as you wish, all through the UCLA Fund. To review a list of campus areas and programs you can support, please click here.
What if I still want to give to the "old" UCLA Fund?
If you give to the Chancellor's Greatest Needs (0440), your gift will go exactly where it went before.
Is there a minimum gift amount?
There is currently no minimum gift amount if paid in full. If you wish to make payments
over a 12 month period, there is a $1,000 minimum. For Young Alumni Chancellor's Circle gifts
with payments over a 12 month period, there is a $250 minimum.
Is there a minimum pledge amount?
The current minimum pledge amount is $10.
What do gifts to the UCLA Fund support?
The UCLA Fund impacts the university's greatest assets: people, places and ideas. Students
receive vital scholarship assistance, world-renowned professors are recruited to UCLA,
and alumni benefit from a degree earned at a consistently top-ranked university.
Computer laboratories are enhanced with the latest technology and study rooms are
maintained and improved. Innovative curricula are developed while extracurricular
programs are created that enhance student life. Groundbreaking research flourishes,
leading to life-changing discoveries. All UCLA Fund gifts combine to make a vital
difference across our campus and beyond. To review a list of campus areas and programs you can support, please click here.

UCLA receives state funding - why is private support necessary?
The state provides less than 15 percent of UCLA's budget and current cutbacks threaten
even this level of support. Private support from alumni, parents and friends is more
important now than ever to secure UCLA's place among the best universities.
What is the Chancellor's Cabinet?
Members of the Chancellor's Cabinet represent leadership giving at its finest.
Alumni, parents and friends who contribute $10,000 or more annually demonstrate
their steadfast commitment to UCLA.
What are the Chancellor's Associates?
Since 1966, this loyal group of leadership donors has helped to make UCLA one of
the most respected universities in the nation. Alumni, parents and friends who contribute
$2,500 or more annually play an integral role in shaping the UCLA community.
What is the Chancellor's Circle?
Alumni, parents and friends who contribute annual gifts between $1,000 and $2,499
play an essential role in continuing UCLA on its path of preeminence.
How are benefits, or courtesies, administered?
If you give less than $2,500, courtesies (as applicable) will be handled by the program(s) you give to on campus.
If you give a collective gift of $2,500 or more (which means the grand total you give to any of the
unrestricted funds under the UCLA Fund umbrella), you qualify for Chancellor's Associates membership and
will receive all courtesies associated with your level of membership. IN ADDITION, you may qualify for
courtesies with different campus programs.
EXAMPLE: a $2,500 gift to the Hammer Museum qualifies the donor for Hammer Patron benefits
IN ADDITION TO Chancellor's Associates courtesies.
If I'm married, will courtesies extend to my spouse?
Yes, they can. Chancellor's Associates courtesies apply to the primary donor and can also
extend to your spouse EXCEPT FOR PARKING. However, your spouse has the option of purchasing
parking at its current market value.
Are all courtesies tax-deductible?
No, all courtesies are not tax-deductible. Certain courtesies-like parking-have a current market
value attached to them. You will receive a gift receipt in the mail that includes a breakdown showing
exactly what is and is not tax-deductible. You will receive a gift receipt for every designated gift
you make and should use these receipts when filing your tax returns.
If you have questions regarding the Fair Market Value of Chancellor's Associates courtesies, call (310) 794-2363.
What calendar does the UCLA Fund use to recognize gifts?
UCLA's fiscal year begins July 1 and ends June 30.
What is the UCLA Parents' Fund?
As a UCLA student, your child will receive a world-class education that will open many doors and
create a lifetime of opportunity. The UCLA Parents' Fund helps maintain that experience for your
child as well as for future Bruins. To find out more, please contact Jacquelean Gilliam,
Director of the UCLA Parents' Fund, at (310) 794-2363 or uclaparents@support.ucla.edu.
What is Senior Class Giving?
Each year, graduating seniors participate in an extremely important rite of passage- Senior Class Giving.
Seniors traditionally raise funds to commemorate their graduation year and benefit future Bruins.
During spring quarter, the class organizes a series of events and fundraising drives to make their gift
to the UCLA community a reality. Senior Class Giving is the best way for seniors to make their mark
on UCLA! To find out more, please contact Melissa Bersofsky at (310) 794-2355 or mbersofsky@support.ucla.edu.
What is the UCLA Student Call Center?

reaching out to the UCLA community. They call alumni, parents and friends to keep them informed of
current UCLA news and events and solicit annual gifts. They also educate members of the Bruin community
about the importance of giving back to UCLA. To find out more, please contact Evan Saito, Director
of the UCLA Student Call Center, at (310) 794-0721 or esaito@support.ucla.edu.
