Alumni Share UCLA Experiences, Big Moments on UCLA Day
Activities encourage rekindling connection with campus, rediscovering UCLA
UCLA alumni are gearing up for a momentous day at their alma mater when the campus celebrates UCLA Day, Saturday, May 17.
Capping off Inauguration Week on campus, it’s a time to reconnect – with the campus, with friends, with the Bruin spirit. Alumni will share and record their “big moments” on campus, and the day will be filled with academic experiences, tours of some of the campus’ most interesting areas and parties for one and all.
“The event-packed day is a bold addition to our existing alumni programs, designed to make UCLA relevant in the contemporary lives of our alumni,” says Rhea Turteltaub, vice chancellor of external affairs.
Conducted by professors noted in their fields, a selection of five seminars ranging from the science of climate change to the relevance of Shakespeare today will showcase the cutting-edge research under way on campus and the ways it impacts daily life. After that, alumni can choose among tours of special campus sites including Powell Library, the Fowler Museum, bus and walking tours of campus, and “Where Wooden Walked,” celebrating the legacy of former basketball Coach John Wooden.
The evening hours will be devoted to fun and festivities. Dinner will be a Bruin barbecue on the campus green, where alumni will hear from newly inaugurated Chancellor Gene Block. And then there are the parties and receptions – several of them all across campus – each one geared to a specific affinity group. Alumni can party-hop among gatherings of the Alumni Scholars Club, Greek life organizations and Spirit Squad, to name just a few.
There will also be a party for recent UCLA graduates (classes 1998-2007) from 8-11 p.m.
Get in the swing of things early by enjoying some of our alums’ unique “Big UCLA Moments.”
