Welcome from the Parents Co-Chairs
Dear UCLA Parents,
We are pleased to be the new Co-Chairs of the UCLA Parents’ Fund, taking the reigns from Nancy and Tom Suiter. We look forward to working with each of you and joining together to continue making the UCLA Parents’ Fund a resounding success.
There is no more exciting or critical time to be involved as a parent at UCLA. UCLA is a public university that offers an education comparable to, and in many cases better than, the Ivy League. In contrast to those schools, however, we have achieved this distinction despite limited state funding, which now only assists with 15% of our total operating budget. We must provide for the rest with private funding, and this is an essential opportunity for Bruin parents to make a difference while our children are still in school. By contributing to the UCLA Parents’ Fund and encouraging others to do so, we can enrich the educational experience for current students while also protecting UCLA’s place among the top universities in the nation.
We originally joined the UCLA Parents’ Fund because, like you, we care about the quality of the experience our children receive on campus. The student diversity and intellectual vitality of the campus has motivated and invigorated our own daughters—Laura, Sara, and Annie—and we want this to continue and improve across the university. Our collective support and volunteerism through the UCLA Parents’ Fund allows us all to reach beyond the classroom, providing opportunities for our children to reach their goals by improving the quality of their overall education.
We found a cure for the “lonesome parent blues,” first by getting involved with the UCLA Parents' Fund, and now serving as its new Co-Chairs. Bruin parents contribute resources that affect areas all across campus through the UCLA Parents’ Fund. So even though our children have left the nest, we can continue to make a difference in their lives through our annual support of UCLA.
